This is just to say that María Luz has just hit on the nail with her comment on the 'Ideal Teachers' section! In my humble opinion, that's the attitude a teacher should have if he/she wants to successfully connect his/her class with the outside world. So, as someone said, just let's start giving.....

In my opinion, what makes a good teacher is his/her ability to himself or herself in the students shoes. I also believe that currency of knowledge, I mean, being aware of what changes are taking place in society and in the educational field are also very important. Teachrs have tosee themselves as learners and learning as a process not a product.

Hello, Gladys and class! After over 20 years teaching, I'm still trying to approach that ideal. One thing is sure: there are as many "ideal teachers" as students there are in a class. All of us value different things. To your already comprehensive list I would add: good humour, patience, and commitment. And something students care for a lot is a sense of justice.
My 5 cents to this interesting brainstorm!

I feel a great teacher is an every day learner.

I think an ideal teacher cares whether or not his students learn and finds a way for all students to gain something from the learning experience. In my mind an ideal teacher is also very versatile and can adapt to and thrive in a variety of contexts.

Hello educators! I mostly agree with your ideas! I think teachers have one of the most difficult works!. Don`t you think so? (I will not repeat your wonderful thoughts) Just one thing: Give the most of you in every lesson and treat your students fairly! Good luck! Pau. - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Enseñar es creer que la otra persona es capaz de llegar a donde nosotros llegamos y superarnos... y no sentir rencor por eso... sino por el contrario estar orgullosos. Mabel Roque

I think that an ideal teacher should never stop learning and should continue to try new things in the classroom throughout his or her career! Also, the ideal teacher should become interested in and nurture his or her students' dreams.

I agree that an ideal teacher should be a lifelong learner. S/he should know the subject s/he teaches well at the outset but should be prepared to change his/her ideas about both the subject and how best to communicate it.
